CyberSource to Buy Authorize.net
E-payment and risk management firm CyberSource Corporation is to acquire IP-based payment provider Authorize.Net Holdings.

The stock and cash transaction is valued at approximately US$565 million, as of the close of the Nasdaq Global Market System on 15 June.

CyberSource, with approximately 20,000 customers, has traditionally focused on managing payments for mid-sized and enterprise customers. Authorize.Net, with more than 175,000 customers, has specialized in small businesses.

States Making Use of Card Payments
The Electronic Payments Coalition (EPC) today welcomed a newly released report by the Council of State Governments, "Acceptance and Use of Electronic Payments for State Taxes and Fees," which details the tremendous value that state governments receive from using electronic payment technology. The EPC pointed to the recent report, noting that state governments are increasing their use of the payment method to collect everything from state taxes to driver licenses' fees.

Visa Small Business Report Yields Mixed Picture
A new small business spending report released today by Visa USA indicates that, while small businesses remain relatively bullish about revenue growth, increasing expenditures on energy, healthcare and taxes are pressing concerns for small business owners.  The report, titled “Visa Small Business Spend Insights,” will be published quarterly and provides a comprehensive view of the U.S. small business climate by combining a poll of U.S. small businesses with the most current Visa spending data on small business cards.

“More than most, small business owners are susceptible to the effects of rising costs and fluctuations in the economy.  As such, they need to hedge against spending increases and economic uncertainty by making smart IT investment decisions and utilizing cash management tools such as payment cards,” said Wayne Best, senior vice president, Business and Economic Analysis, Visa USA.

If you would like to be considered for membership on one of ETA's standing committees, now is the time to put your hat in the ring. The deadline for applications has been extended to May 12, 2008.

Committee applications for the 2008-2009 program year were distributed in the ETA packet at the Annual Meeting and by email. To be considered for a committee position, you must return the application by May 12, 2008.
