Authorize.Net Announces New Safe Storage Option PDF Print E-mail
CyberSource Corporation today announced that its Authorize.Net solution has launched Customer Information Manager (CIM), which allows online merchants to store their customers' payment information on Authorize.Net's secure servers. Merchants using CIM can simplify payments for their returning customers, as well as easily manage recurring transactions. Because transaction data is no longer stored on merchants' servers, CIM potentially simplifies compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

CIM is designed to address the needs of merchants seeking ways to:

  • Simplify their PCI DSS compliance
  • Process recurring transactions where the date and/or amount is different each month (e.g. utility companies)
  • Process usage charges where customers are only billed when the service is used (e.g. pay-as-you-go cell phones)
  • Provide returning customers with the convenience of not having to re-enter personal data

With CIM, merchants can create, view, update and delete customer profiles that include billing, payment and shipping information. CIM also supports multiple profiles, allowing customers to store multiple shipping addresses or payment methods.

"Managing transaction data is a significant challenge for merchants of all sizes," stated Roy Banks, Authorize.Net president. "By storing customer data safely on our servers, Authorize.Net can help our merchants with their PCI compliance, which is one of the most important issues facing merchants today. The adoption of CIM should be a priority for any merchant who is concerned about the secure storage of their customer transaction data. Also, managing customer information using CIM automates the processing of recurring transactions and enhances both the convenience and experience for repeat customers."

Realty4Cell.com, a service which gives realtors the ability to transmit information and photos of real estate listings via cell phone, was one of the first Authorize.Net merchants to implement CIM in its trial phase. "Real estate agents using Realty4Cell.com pay a minimum monthly fee and depending on usage, also pay a per transaction fee," stated Matthew Gaiser, Realty4Cell.com president. "Prior to implementing CIM, we had to obtain credit card data every time our customers had a usage charge. With CIM, however, all of that is automated through our connection with Authorize.Net, making billing a snap. The ability to have multiple and back-up funding sources in the event that a credit card is declined or expires is also a tremendous bonus."

For additional information on Authorize.Net's new Customer Information Manager, please visit the CIM product page at http://www.authorize.net/cim. Authorize.Net merchants interested in signing up for CIM should contact their reseller or log into the Merchant Interface and click Customer Information Manager from the main menu on the left, then follow the instructions to sign up.
