ETA’s Annual Meeting & Expo is now history, and by just about every measure it was a huge success. Each year it reminds all of us just how dynamic and innovative our industry really is. We’ll have full coverage of the meeting in the June issue of Transaction Trends, but I can tell you that the 2008 edition of the Annual Meeting had as much excitement and energy as any I’ve ever attended.
That ETA’s flagship event can be such a success even as there is a lot of uncertainty about the near term economic outlook in the United States, says volumes about the resiliency and forward-looking attitude of the companies that make up our industry. But that doesn’t mean a difficult economy won’t have an impact on our business. This month’s cover story looks at what ISOs in particular are doing to strengthen their companies and adapt to a changing economic landscape. The big trend, it appears, is diversification of revenue streams and a renewed emphasis on marketing—creating or exploiting niches and finding ways to stand out in a crowd.
